PROGRESS
ASSIGNMENT
TWO STRATEGY STATEMENT
Within this assignment, I am depicting MVDR’s Barcelona Pavilion
100 years after human inhabitants have left. I intend to do this with the
strategic consideration of landscape, textures, events – all though an
interactive means.
The narrative accompanying the forced exodus is war based,
wherein the pavilion was taken siege and the area converted into a temporary base.
Within this time of changed occupancy, there was s deliberate neglect to the
structure and its surrounds. Hence,
there will be remnants of the war stricken zone. In addition, the space has been
further used by derelict occupancy- wherein the pavilion has been susceptible to
vandalism, fires etc. Though all this time, each change of space use has left
it’s unique mark- culminating to the reveal of the result 100 years later.
As my landscape is a barren desert, the sand dunes will infiltrate the structure, engulfing and infiltrating a large part of the structure- both internally and externally. This will reveal the overpowering control of nature, where there is no more human interference to maintain it. The sand dunes will have sparse grass to suggest a state of being dormant. In an extension to this, I plan to incorporate roaming animals to demonstrate a long term of human abandonment.
In terms of interactivity, the pavilion had been largely
broken down, as the walls have begun to crumble and fall. Hence, the roof has
collapsed in on itself, as well as other structural elements. The interactive
component comes into play with breakable objects that are destroyed upon
shooting. There are also animated textures which reveal the progressing cracks
in the lead up to major structural failures.
The results of the pavilion’s final textures are accredited to several
events- such as progressive sand storm weathering, vandalism, material decay
and corrosion.
