EXP 1 FINAL SUBMISSION

STRATEGY STATEMENT

The combination of letters and numbers I am using is E7. I plan to incorporate these into my landscape through both a macro, and micro scale. I have arrived at a strategy of implementing this through a considered approach, revealing the combination through each scene on both scales. The main terrain of the island will conceal E7, visible from a bird’s eye view. In regards to revealing the combination on a micro scale, I will employ the use of shadows at specific times to cast desired forms. Furthermore, I plan on arranging objects in quantities of seven to produce an E form. I have also considered the use of light projection, the deliberate placement of vegetation to create desired forms, and natural features such as tornados which will aid in revealing the combination. It is intended that, whilst exploring the island, elements will subtly reveal the letter and number, suggesting the combination in a sophisticated manner.
In regards to my trailer, the concept of ‘ALONE?’ will stimulate an exploration of the island, revealing the combination in a provocative manner.

DEVELOPED ENVIRONMENT

Below are images of my completed desert landscape. I have distinctive areas within the island, all of which cohesively unify to create my scene.

TRAILER

The trailer of Eagle Eye depicts the questionable nature of being alone on a desert island. There are Others, and they are trying to tell you something.

PLAYFILES

PS: The link first link below was the original file upload. After revisiting the final submission, I re-uploaded the file, complete with all items for a play test. Please use the SECOND link to access it.

DRAFT OF ISLAND

THE CANYON
I am currently developing a river canyon for the desert area. These landforms are common in North American deserts. I have deliberately carved out the land to create an E formation, when viewed aerially. I crated this section using terrain modification and water volumes. I have incorporated waterfalls, however- as with all aspects of the area, it will need editing and revising.

OASIS
An oasis is a fertile spot in the desert where water is found. I have specifically designed this oasis  to manipulate the land, in revealing an e form aerially. I have incorporated the deliberate placement of vegetation to create a 7 form. I plan to further develop the scene by adding more appropriate vegetation and textures.

E FORMATION
This rock formation reveals the letter in a very conspicuous manner. I plan to refine the formation my modifying the terrain, aiming to soften it, and apply appropriate textures to make to scene more realistic.

CAVE
I created this cave with the use of voxel editing and painting. I am trying to find out how to texture the rocks in a manner which will be more suited to the desert terrain.

PLATEAU
This is a segment of a plateau area within the desert. The plateau is vast and is surrounded by mountains on either side. I plan to develop this area with more textures.

TRAILER

I have chosen the concept of ‘ALONE?’ to run through my trailer. I want to convey the notion of an undetectable presence, trying to reveal a concealed message (of E7). I have chosen to use the music, “Mindheist by Zack Hemsey”, music that was also used in the trailer for “Inception”(2010). I plan to use Sony Vegas to create my trailer.

WEEK FIVE

REVEALING AND CONCEALING THE COMBINATION
Below are images taken from the island, and the several different methods used to convey the combination of E7.

ISLAND AS A WHOLE
The terrain of the island itself is demonstrates ridges and landforms which convey a lower case e form and the number 7. This is most prominent when viewed aerially, though is not as conspicuous from the ground level.

THE RIVER CANYON
The river canyon itself, is carved form the terrain to display a lover case e shape. When viewed aerially, is can also be read next to a ridge which creates the number 7. Within the canyon, there is a protruding rock which casts a shadow of the number 7 at a specific time of the day.

ROCK FORMATION
The rock formation conveys a capital E form. Furthermore, within the rock formation, through the use of textures, there is a revealing of E7.

OASIS
The oasis is designed as an e shape to hold the water volume. The arrangement of vegetation also contributes to the number aspect of the combination. The placement of rocks and walkways reveals E7, best viewed aerially in a macro scale. The use of shadows has been employed in creating the number 7 at a desired time of the day.

CAVE
Upon entering the cave, there is a message inscribed onto the wall; a way of sending the message from an unseen entity

ABANDONED BASE
The base reveals the letters through the deliberate selection of objects, such as seven storage crates. Through the use of lighting, emphasis has been placed upon the abandoned structure, to reveal one part of the combination, as well as the spreading fire, destructively carving its way through the scene is a deliberate pattern.

FIVE CRYENGINE LANDSCAPES

The island created form last week's work has been used to develop five unique landscapes inspired by the landscape architects above. This was achieved throguh the implementation of textures, vegetation and architectural objects etc.

WEEK TWO

FIVE LANDSCAPES

Banaue rice terraces, Philippines (country of origin)
The rice terraces are cultivates into the hilly landscape. The terraces progressively increase at almost vertical angles to contain the large amounts of water needed for the fields. The landscape generally consists of reeds and grass, and lots of water. These rice fields are also exposed to large amounts of light during the summer seasons.

North American desert
This barren desert predominantly consists of rock formations. there is very little vegetation present, due to the climate. However, there is a presence of succulent vegetation which are able to survive these harsh conditions. The landscape is dominate by the red earthy color and is exposed to constant sunlight.

Glacial environment
This mountainous environment is covered by ice, which has carved through the rocks to create distinct frozen waterways. The terrain itself is abrupt and course in nature. There is no vegetation due to the freezing temperatures and harsh conditions. There is limited exposure to light and the severe weathering prevents challenges for any growth or navigation

 Riverside
This landscape is rich in vegetation. The evergreen trees and shrubbery line the cliff face landscape down to the waterfront. The exposed, shale face of the cliffs are bordered by the greenery, giving a richness to the environment. The terrain gently sloped up the the base of the cliff face, to where the land steeply changes.

Alps mountain range, Switzerland
This mountain range engulfs the presiding vegetation with a layer of ice. The cover a thick spread of the base, with shrubbery increasing towards the peaks of the mountains.Below, a placid river separates the range from a gently sloping hillside which is covered in tall pines and grass.

This landscape was formed in conjunction with Geocontrol 2 and Photoshop to create the heightmap and textures. The terrain and environment texture was modelled off the glacial environment reference.
